Understand how to retain diverse groups of employees by creating opportunities for growth and authentic spaces for diversity to flourish.

Academic Directors

Dr. Eden King

Lynette S. Autrey Professor of Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Rice University

As an associate professor of industrial-organizational (IO) psychology at Rice University, Dr. King’s research explores the equitable and effective management of diverse organizations. Her research has yielded over 100 scholarly publications and has been featured in the New York Times, on Good Morning America and the Harvard Business Review. In addition to her scholarship, Dr. King has consulted on applied projects related to climate initiatives, selection systems and diversity training programs. She is currently a senior associate editor for the Journal of Management and an associate editor for the Journal of Business and Psychology. She’s received recognition from the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues and the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology, an organization for which she recently served as president. Dr. King has partnered with organizations to improve diversity climate, increase fairness in selection systems and to design and implement diversity training programs.

Dr. Mikki Hebl

Martha and Henry Malcolm Lovett Chair of Psychology and Professor of Psychological Sciences and Management, Rice University

As a full professor of psychology and management at Rice University, Dr. Hebl’s interest lies in the ways in which social psychological phenomena can be applied to industries and organizations. Her research focuses on workplace discrimination and the barriers that stigmatized individuals—such as women and ethnic minorities—face in social interactions, the hiring process, business setting and the medical community. Dr. Hebl has published in approximately 200 publications. She has also been awarded 21 teaching awards (including the most prestigious national award called the Cherry Award), research grants from NSF and NIH, and several gender-related research awards. She presents her and others’ related research findings in an effort to educate and ameliorate disparate social inequities. A proud native of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Dr. Hebl graduated with her B.A. from Smith College and earned her Ph.D. at Dartmouth College. She joined the faculty at Rice University in 1998 and was endowed with the title of Radoslav Tsanoff Assistant Professorship in 2000.
